Note on Husband: Isaac BOWNES (1)

From the Sheffield Independent, Saturday 20 June 1846

"Isaac Bownes, of School lane, Park, was charged as a disorderly servant by Messrs. Peace, of Forge lane. The prisoner is a file hardener, and had engaged according to the custom of the trade to give and receive a month's notice. On the 6th June, he absented himself from the works without notice, and had not been near since. His defence was, that he had not had sufficient work. This was contradicted by Messrs. Peace's manager, and he was ordered to return to his work, and give proper notice if he wished to leave."27
