Email from Philip Dodgson to Ian Nelson, 03 June 2017
Dear Ian I have just discovered your family tree website, after googling “Annie Lavinia Worfolk” (my maternal grandmother). I saw her on a regular basis until the day she died after a stroke in 1970. I note that your site hasn’t been updated since early 2015, so I won’t write too much now, but if you are still interested in these matters please let me know at rivelin.valley@@btinternet.com Phil Dodgson
Dear Ian Thanks for getting back to me and for the attachments which I will read. My mother was Dorothy Finley (1922 to 1987 - lung cancer). I was born in 1952 (an only child). My dad (Harry Dodgson) died 4 years ago, age 95 - he was born in Walkley too. I clearly remember seeing most of my grandmothers sisters and their spouses from time to time - the last time being Great Aunt Doris at my mothers funeral in 1987 (I think). Oddly enough, she rarely mentioned her brothers although they must have lived quite close. I don’t think she ever fully recovered from the loss of her son Jim, killed in Sicily (by a sniper she said) in 1943. I have masses of old photographs stored, but unfortunately my dad mixed his side’s and my mums side’s photos up!! I will look through more things including my diaries (kept 1959 to date!!), my mums wartime diary and so on, and will get back to you in due course. Best wishes Phil Dodgson
Dear Ian Just checked my 1987 diary - in fact it was Great Aunt Edna I talked with at my mums funeral (11/9/87). Phil
